Untitled, 1980
The rare complete set of six aquatints from 1980, illustrating Donald Judd’s mastery of exacting forms, technique and incisive prose, evident throughout his oeuvre. Judd sought to create art that was self-referential and autonomous, focusing on „actual space“ and whole, unified shapes that are to be experienced for their own sake, without any external references or illusion. In this serial work, the focus is on the six rectangular shapes and their relationships with each other. Through a skillful blend of repetition and variation, Judd orchestrates a minimalist ballet in which the shapes harmoniously interact, exuding a powerful presence that resonates within the environment where they are displayed.
